solid-state phase transformation

Post by zelin zhang » Mon May 25, 2026 10:20 am

Dear Bernd,

I would like to ask for your help regarding the orientation output in MICRESS.

In my current simulations, I have already enabled the orientation-related output options in the output settings. However, after the simulation is completed, no file is generated in the result folder.TabO

I checked the simulation process carefully, and the calculation itself appears to run normally without obvious errors. Other output files are generated correctly, but the orientation output file is still missing.

I would like to ask:

Under what conditions will the file be generated?TabO
Are there additional settings required besides enabling orientation output?
Does the orientation output depend on specific nucleation settings, grain settings, or phase definitions?
Is the file only available for certain output formats or MICRESS versions?TabO

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much for your help.

Best regards,
Zelin Zhang

Hi,
could it be that all your phases are defined as isotropic? Orientations are only defined for grains of anisotropic phases. Therefore you will only get the TabO output if at least one phase is defined as 'anisotropic'.
Best regards,
Janin
